I once expressed
the opinion that Uzbekistan is still more imaginary than depicted. Like the
other local artists working with the photographic medium, I try to tear away
this veil of the exotic gaze or the simply unknown. Together, we strive to
shoot stories that leave the viewer with the right to decide for themselves
what they see. It is clear that the problem of our current representation is
still at the very surface of the study. I, like a wanderer in a dark tunnel,
having a small lantern of knowledge, offer my subjective truth. In the noise of
ideas in everyday street fashion, I saw a brilliant sign of the times that
lives on the streets, in bazaars, or in every shop. It serves as a reminder of
the long-lasting relationship between East and West that has continued since
the times of the Great Silk Road. Transforming and mimicking into something
accessible and local, it serves a real country and real people with their
dreams and ideas about luxury. This short series is about “how I saw something
original in something unoriginal” and fell in love with it. No fake.
